Speech therapist’s activity: assistance in the development of speech and communication skills

A speech therapist is a specialist who deals with the diagnosis, prevention and correction of speech disorders in children and adults. Its main task is to ensure the full development of speech, eliminate its violations and form a person’s ability to communicate clearly, competently and freely.
The work of a speech therapist covers a wide range of tasks. First of all, he performs speech development diagnostics: he evaluates how the child pronounces sounds, understands spoken speech, knows how to build phrases, how rich his vocabulary is and how he interacts with others. Based on the diagnosis, the specialist develops an individual correction program, which includes exercises appropriate to the age and level of development of the child.
Speech therapist in the classroom:
teaches the correct pronunciation of sounds and the elimination of speech defects (burr, lisp, etc.);
develops auditory perception, attention, memory and thinking;
generates grammatically correct speech;
enriches vocabulary and teaches you to compose coherent stories.;
It helps with stuttering, alalia, dysarthria and other complex speech disorders.
Classes are held in the form of exciting games, using flashcards, pictures, mirrors, speech therapy manuals and exercises. This presentation helps the child to easily perceive information and achieve results faster.
It is important to understand that a speech therapist works not only with children, but also with adults, especially after strokes, traumatic brain injuries or neurological diseases, when restoration of lost speech (aphasia) is required.
The effectiveness of speech therapy depends on the regularity of classes, the participation of parents and an individual approach to each. Timely referral to a speech therapist helps the child avoid difficulties in learning, socialization and communication in the future.
